VICKY LONGSHAW
|
|
|
Candidate Attorney, Patent
Department
Dr Longshaw is a biochemist
specializing in molecular-cellular
biology and recombinant DNA/protein
technology. Vicky has carried out
several post-doctoral projects
involving the cloning of bacterial
and mammalian shuttle plasmid
constructs, site-directed
mutagenesis and protein engineering,
gene knockdown using RNA
interference (RNAi) technology,
exogenous gene expression in several
tissue culture cell lines, and
production of episomal stable murine
cell lines. Some of her work
involved the development of model
systems for gene therapeutics
against HCV and its associated
cancers. Her more recent work
includes modulation of gene
expression in murine embryonic stem
cells and directed differentiation
studies. She also has wide-ranging
biochemical experience from her
protein-protein interaction studies
using purification of recombinant
proteins and their engineered
derivatives, as well as their
downstream structural and functional
characterization.
Vicky’s area of expertise includes
the general preparation and filing
of local and foreign patent
applications for biotechnological
and pharmaceutical related
inventions. She advises on the
compliance with South African law of
medical claims related to such
inventions, and monitors amendment
of the corresponding patent
applications. Vicky carries out due
diligence searches and opinions on
the patentability and patent
infringement potential of
biotechnological and pharmaceutical
products, in order to assist in the
assessment of their
commercialization potential.
