Pursuant to Decision Nos. 64 and 65 of 2026 issued by the Egyptian Intellectual Property Authority (EGIPA), significant increases to official trade mark fees, together with a range of new administrative service charges, have been implemented in respect of various trade mark attendances in Egypt. These changes officially came into effect on 5 April 2026.
According to recent industry updates, the revised fee structure impacts several core procedures including the filing, prosecution (for examination, publication and registration) and maintenance (for renewals and recordals) costs applicable to trade marks in Egypt.
As a notable cost adjustment to Egyptian trade mark practice in recent years, this appears consistent with a broader trend across several African jurisdictions where intellectual property offices are revising fee structures to modernise operations, improve administrative capacity and address currency exchange rate fluctuations.
As a result, applicants and proprietors can expect higher overall prosecution and maintenance costs for Egyptian trade mark portfolios going forward. In practical terms, brand owners may need to reassess their trade mark budgeting and filing strategies in Egypt going forward.
